    Jennifer Romano and Nika Smith Auld - Being a UX researcher in government, industry and consulting 

    What is it like to be a User Experience Researcher for a Government Agency? How is it different from Industry or Consulting? Have you ever thought about which environment might be right for you? Have you tried one and considered another? In this talk, Jennifer Romano Bergstrom and Nika Smith Auld will discuss their experiences in all three! Jen and Nika have spent years in the various roles and will discuss the pros and cons of each and the unique aspects and opportunities that each brings. You will leave this talk with a greater understanding of the different environments that you can be a UX Researcher in, and you will learn what each of the environments seeks in UX’ers.

    Guests must pre-register at Eventbrite (limit 150), bring a valid Photo ID, and sign an NDA.

    Jen is a User Experience Researcher at Facebook in Menlo Park CA, where she mainly works to understand and improve the UX of Privacy tools. She specializes in eye tracking, usability testing, survey design, and UX for older adults and is the co-author of Eye Tracking in User Experience Design (2014) and Usability Testing for Survey Research (forthcoming, 2016). Before joining Facebook, Jen formed and led a UX team at Fors Marsh Group, a research consultancy firm in the Washington DC area. She also spent 3 years at the US Census Bureau, improving the UX of Census forms and surveys. Jen received a PhD in Experimental Psychology from The Catholic University of America.

    Nika is a User Experience Researcher at Facebook, working with the Atlas team in Seattle. She is specifically interested in understanding how agencies use Atlas to track the performance of their ads and make educated decisions. Prior to joining Facebook, Nika conducted research for a variety of business and consumer-facing software companies including Concur, Amazon, HTC, and Google. She also worked as an onsite contractor for government agencies in the Washington DC area. Nika earned a MS in Human-Computer Interaction from University of Michigan and a BS in Information Technology from Rochester Institute of Technology.
