User Experience Designer Req#65955
Take part in the University of
Washington's 140-year tradition of academic excellence, scientific
breakthroughs, high-tech innovation, thriving arts, and world-class athletics.
We are seeking a User Experience Designer to design and develop new tools and features
for the Catalyst Web Tools and other enterprise communication, collaboration, and data
management applications used for teaching, learning and research by the UW
community.
About You:
You should be passionate about understanding how
people use technology. What are they trying to do? What needs they have? Where
does the technology fall short in meeting these needs? You should know how to
find answers to these questions through a solid User-Centered Design process,
where decisions are guided by data, and translate user needs into better
products. Furthermore, you should be able to clearly communicate your findings,
ideas, designs, and vision to other team members.
Requirements:
- Degree
in Human-Computer Interaction, Informatics, Technical Communications,
related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 2 years
of experience with the following:
- Designing Web-based software applications, including constructing
prototypes, wireframes, and information architectures based upon a strong
knowledge of information, visual, and interaction design.
- User-centered design methodologies, including translating user
research findings into functional requirements and developing functional
specifications.
- A variety of research methodologies, including experiment design,
contextual inquiry, interviewing and observation, usability testing,
focus groups, surveys, and Web data analytics (e.g., conversion
analysis).
- Expertise
in current design practices and tools (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop,
Dreamweaver, MS Visio, OmniGraffle.)
- Expert
knowledge of HTML, XHTML, DHTML, XML, CSS, AJAX, and JavaScript.
- Deep
knowledge of Web semantics and accessibility best practices.
Desired Experience:
·
Experience
working in an agile software development process.
·
Experience
in higher education. Familiarity with UW systems, policies, and academic
programs.
·
Experience
with JS Libraries (especially YUI).
·
Experience
designing interfaces for mobile devices.
Conditions of Employment:
While the general working hours are within
Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., this individual must be willing to adjust
hours to accommodate the needs of his/her colleagues and collaborators. Events
that may occur outside the normal work schedule include, but are not limited to
project meetings. Likewise, this position has regular stringent deadlines
revolving around the academic calendar and project timelines, which may require
extended work hours. This is a project-funded position expected to last
until August 2011, contingent on continued funding. The position may
continue beyond that, again contingent on funding and need.
Does this sound like a match for your skills
and interests?
